7 Ways To Quickly Learn Spanish

By Geralde Vincent-Bancroft

Spanish is a beautiful language spoken by almost 500 million people worldwide. If you’re looking to learn Spanish quickly, there are a few things you can do to speed up the process. Check out these seven tips:

Set realistic goals.

Setting realistic goals  can be an incredibly motivating exercise. When you know where you want to go, it’s easier to chart a clear path to get there.

For example, if you’re trying to learn Spanish, decide what level you’d like to reach, how much time and effort you are willing to put in, and establish a timeline for when you’d like to achieve your goal.

Making a plan gives us focus and helps us break down daunting tasks into more manageable bits which makes any feat achievable.

With that said, be sure that the goals that you set are sensible and achievable; such as being able to hold a basic conversation after a month of study.   Trying to learn an entire language in a week is not only unrealistic, it’s also incredibly frustrating.

As you reach each mini-goal throughout your journey, it will continue to inspire progress until the grand finale is crossed off of your list – just like learning Spanish.

Also, Celebrate each success along the way, as this will help motivate you and reinforce the idea that steps are being taken towards your bigger goal.

Find a good Spanish tutor.

Learning Spanish can open so many doors and give you the opportunity to learn and experience  different cultures. Finding the right tutor is essential for being able to effectively learn the language. Don’t forget to ask around for recommendations from people you trust. Good word of mouth often leads to great results.

You can also read reviews on tutors and see what others are saying. After finding one or two tutors that fit your criteria, get in touch with them directly and make sure their teaching style aligns with how you like to learn best. That way, you can be sure you made the right choice.

A good tutor  will be able to help you learn the basics of the language and build up your confidence. Look for someone who is patient and has a lot of experience teaching Spanish to beginners.

Use technology to your advantage.

Technology is an incredible tool and can make learning a new skill like Spanish much more accessible and enjoyable.

Instead of sifting through piles of physical books or trying to learn the language on your own, why not take advantage of the convenience and instant feedback of technology-driven methods that are available today?

There are apps that are designed to walk you step-by-step through the basics. Audio services such as Duolingo  can help improve pronunciations and speaking skills. It is free, fun and effective.

You can also find virtual flashcard tools for memorizing key vocabulary words, podcasts for staying up-to-date on current conversations in Spanish.

Online communities  for getting answers to questions from people all around the world, and so much more are at your disposal.

No matter which tech method you choose, taking advantage of technology can provide a great opportunity to learn Spanish in an effective, affordable way.

Immerse yourself in the language.

One of the best ways to learn any language is to surround yourself with it as much as possible. If you can, find a way to live in a Spanish-speaking country for a month or two. Or, if that’s not possible, try to find a local meetup group or class where you can practice your Spanish with native speakers on a regular basis.

Another alternative is reading native-language books, joining an online group with Spanish-speaking members, or watching TV shows and movies entirely in Spanish . They are all excellent ways to fully immerse yourself in the language.

You’ll be able to experience different cultures in a deeper and more meaningful way. Keep challenging yourself.

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes.

Mistakes  are inevitable when you’re learning any new skill – so don’t let them hold you back. Embrace them as part of the learning process and use them as an opportunity to learn from your mistakes and improve your language skills.

Making mistakes can be overwhelming and it may seem easier not to even try.  After practicing pronunciation and mastering new vocabulary, the progress we make helps us become more confident in our language skills.

Plus, making mistakes and learning from them is one of the best ways to learn.

So don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and go after something you have always wanted – like speaking another language – and take pride in any mistakes you make along the way.

Practice, practice, practice!

The only way to get better at speaking any language is to practice as often as possible. So find every opportunity you can to speak Spanish – whether it’s with a tutor, a friend, or even just by yourself at home in front of the mirror.

Practice can provide incredibly powerful results. Even if you don’t think you’re making much progress at first, if you continue to take small steps forward while practicing consistently over time, eventually you’ll begin to notice amazing progress.

You’ll be growing in leaps and bounds before you know it.
