Nowadays the world’s economy is more inclusive, migration is at its peak and because of it, countries are more culturally diverse. On the other hand, technology shortens distances between people and nations by connecting them all over the world in seconds. Could all these factors favour the rise of a polyglot army of young people?
wouldn’t it be great if future generations could understand each other
How could it happen?
Migration
In Europe and the USA, the migration rate is very high, especially in big towns and cities you can see how life is transforming into a more culturally diverse, all inclusive environment. Children who are growing in these surroundings, tend to be more tolerant, accepting and open to new languages. It is reported that 77% of the new European generations speak more than one language. This potentially can help increase communication and build more intercultural understanding leading to tolerance and acceptance.

Economy
In developed countries, due to globalisation, the demand for multilingual employees is on the rise. The numbers of young professionals speaking more than one language is high. Likewise, people in developing countries benefit as well. They have more disposable income allowing them to travel on a regular basis, either for business or pleasure; and the demand for languages, especially English, are high.
Technology
Throughout the world people are connected to one another in no time. It’s much easier to make friends, not only in other countries, but in other continents. Teenagers and adults alike notice the need for another language.
There are a myriad o feducational apps that make learning a new language look appealing to the young, first due to gamification, and second because they are readily available on the phone or tablet.
As parents, adults, governments, we should encourage our children and young people in general, to learn a foreign language because it has all the benefits:
* Their brains develop differently thus making them smarter.
* It boosts their CV. The extra skill of a foreign language opens doors and makes them more employable.
In a world in constant turmoil, wouldn’t it be great if future generations could understand each other at a deeper level and be more empathetic.
